休斯敦大學(xué)成立之初為休斯頓初級學(xué)院，位于圣哈辛托高中，且僅提供夜校課程，后于1933年，正式認(rèn)可為四年制的公立大學(xué)。在休斯敦大學(xué)成立50周年時，休斯敦大學(xué)系統(tǒng)成立，休斯敦大學(xué)也成為其中規(guī)模最大，建校最早的學(xué)校。休斯敦大學(xué)每年授予8200個學(xué)位，校友至今已有26萬人次。其中 音樂創(chuàng)作人和歌手荒山亮就是校友之一。
